How to choose the right drill bit

Currently on the market there are many types of drill bits depending on the purpose of use, but we can choose the most standard drill bits to process materials more efficiently, increasing business efficiency. Here CNC Anh Kim would like to share some information so that you can choose the right drill bits for your business.

1. Choose the drill bit material

The drill bit is composed of two main components including the inner steel and the outer coating. The inner steel part is mainly made of high-speed steel HSS-R, HSS – G, HSSE-Co5, HSSE-Co8, Tungsten Carbide… And the outer coating can be Titanium, Carbon Nitride, Titanium Nitride, Tecrona… Depending on the item For the purpose of use, you choose the most suitable drill to increase work efficiency.

Carbon Nitride coated drill bit will increase the hardness of the material when operating at high intensity, ensuring ductility and low friction for drilling high hardness steels.
Titanium Nitride coated aluminum drill bit with good oxidation resistance, reduced heat, used to drill hard materials that do not require cooling.
Tecrona coated drill bits are the most advanced coating for extended service life, for high-intensity work.

2. Select the drill bit according to the object to be drilled

If you are drilling metal, you cannot use a wood drill or a concrete drill because each type of drill will be suitable for different drilling materials. Specifically:

Wood drill bits have 4 types  nail head, spiral, paddle wood milling bit, wood core draw for you to choose depending on what the purpose of drilling wood for. The nail head wood drill bit has the same shape as the iron drill bit, suitable for all types of wood. The spiral wood drill bit has a spiral design for drilling wood materials that need depth and speed. The paddle wood drill bit forms a wide bore. And the wood core drill bit is definitely needed when you want to pull out the wood core.
Iron drill bits are divided by material and structure is also very diverse, can meet many needs of use.
Concrete drill bits include chisels, magnetic drills, concrete core drills

3. How to use the drill correctly

Choose the right drill bit  for its intended use:  Aluminum Drill Bit only for drilling aluminum, not for drilling iron or any other material.
Fit the drill bit tight enough: This is very important if you don’t want your drill bit to break, especially a drill bit that is very fragile. Tight fitting  helps you to have nice and satisfactory drill holes.

Cooling during drilling: Cooling is necessary when you are drilling high hardness materials with expensive drill bits. If your drill does not have the ability to cool itself, you need to cool it already, or make porridge to have a cooling unit. Good cooling increases the life of the drill bit and the drilling product is beautiful and satisfied.

Always ensure concentricity of the drill bit and shaft of the drill during drilling. In a word, you must keep the drill bit perpendicular to the plane to be drilled.

Firmly fix the aluminum bar, like a drill rod. Not only will this help you get beautiful holes, but it will also help you protect yourself while drilling.
